F-35Cs Trap Aboard USS Dwight D. Eisenhower | Video

Aboard to carry out Developmental Test II (DT-II)

Video by Dave Weidmann of the Pax River Integrated Test Force (ITF) shows F-35C Lightning II airframes CF-3 and CF-5 arriving aboard the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69) for the aircraft’s second developmental test (DT-II) at sea. Two F-35Cs carried out the first round of developmental testing in 2014. While aboard Eisenhower October 2-15, the Pax River ITF will test F-35C carrier suitability and integration in the at-sea environment, including catapult takeoffs and arrested landings, simulated maintenance operations, maintenance and fit tests for the aircraft and support equipment, and other operational maneuvers. DT-II is another step toward the F-35C reaching its scheduled initial operational capability (IOC) in 2018.
