Craig Covault

Craig Covault is Editor-at-Large for the authoritative Web site SpaceflightNow.com. He previously wrote about 3,000 articles on space and aeronautics during a nearly 37-year career at Aviation Week & Space Technology, where he was Space Technology Editor, Paris Bureau Chief, and Senior Editor. Covault has filed space stories from 20 different countries and written most extensively on space from Russia, China, and Japan. His most recent story for Faircount Media Group was for the Apollo XI 40th Anniversary publication.

He has flown numerous bomber, high performance fighter, and command and control aircraft including Air Force One, the F-100, F-106, F-4E, F-111A, FB-111, B-52, EC-135, and the AV-8 Harrier, along with flights in the F-15 and AWACS in Alaska. He is also the first American to fly with the Russian Strategic Bomber Force on board a TU-95 Bear-H cruise missile bomber.

Covault has earned numerous awards including two Neal Awards, considered the equivalent of a Pulitzer Prize for specialized writing. He has twice won the top “Space Writing Award” from the National Space Club in Washington and won the Breaking News Award and Space Journalist Award from the RoyalAeronautical Establishment and Aero Club of Paris. He also won the 2004 Decade of Excellence Award presented by that British/French group at the Farnborough Air Show near London.
