VMA-211 Back in the Fight

VMA-211 AV-8B Harrier IIs land at Camp Bastion to continue the fight after the insurgent attack on Sept. 14, 2012. One of the aircraft is painted to honor Lt. Col. C.K. “Otis” Raible and Sgt. Bradley Atwell, with Raible’s name painted on the canopy rail and Atwell’s on the gear door. Raible and Atwell were killed in the attack. The flight of six Harriers arrived at Camp Bastion Sept. 26, 2012. Judging by the aircrafts’ markings, the six Harriers flown in to bring VMA-211 back up to strength have been borrowed from Marine Corps squadron VMA-231 “Ace of Spades.” A flight of two VMA-211 aircraft had relocated to Camp Bastion previously, on Sept. 18, 2012.
