Sikorsky X2 Helicopter

Sikorsky recently released a video showing some of the capabilities of its X2 helicopter. The tri-rotor X2 is the fastest helicopter ever built. In 2010, the X-2 reached speeds of over 287 mph. The X2 was used by Sikorsky as a demonstrator for new technologies, such as an integrated fly-by-wire system that allows the engine/rotor/propulsion system to operate efficiently, with full control of rotor rpm throughout the flight envelope, high lift-to-drag rigid blades, low drag hub fairings, and active vibration control. Lessons learned from the X2 will have military applications as Sikorsky develops the S-97, its planned offering for the U.S. Army‘s Armed Aerial Scout program.
