Black Knight Transformer First Flight

Advanced Tactics Inc. has released a video showing the first flight of their Black Knight Transformer. The flight test was conducted in late March at a private location in southern California. Designed to be capable of hovering thousands of feet above the ground, as a safety precaution the test only went to 10 feet. The eight foldable rotors allow the Black Knight to transform from a helicopter to a vehicle capable of cargo transportation or casualty evacuation. A hybrid “multicopter” design, the Black Knight’s drivetrain can be replaced with an amphibious boat hull, cargo pod, or ISR pod. Proposed as an entry for the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency‘s Transformer program, the Black Knight went unselected. That program, since renamed ARES, has been refocused on cargo delivery.
