Aerial Reconfigurable Embedded System (ARES)

The Lockheed Martin Skunk Works led team, that includes Piasecki Aircraft, has released a video showing the potential capabilities of its Aerial Reconfigurable Embedded System (ARES). ARES is being developed as part of a Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) program. Formerly known as the Transformer (TX), ARES seeks to provide high speed vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) delivery. Its unique design, that incorporates multiple payloads, would allow the system to be adaptable for multiple missions. Missions envisioned for ARES include the ability to carry cargo pods, medical evacuation units, a tactical ground vehicle, troops, and armed scout, reconnaissance and strike capabilities.
