Centennial of Naval Aviation TC-12B

A Hawker Beechcraft TC-12B training aircraft painted in vintage colors to celebrate the centennial of naval aviation. The paint scheme replicates that of U.S. Navy aircraft prior to May 15, 1942. After that date, the red and white rudder striping and red disc in the center of the white star were erased, the red disc especially because it was thought to resemble, in the heat of battle, the Japanese “meatball” hinomaru national insignia. The aircraft’s black glare panels and propeller tips diverge from the official paint scheme of the era, but the panels, at least, are required by present-day regulations.
