The National Forensic Science Technology Center (NFSTC) used the 2013 Special Operations Forces Industry Conference (SOFIC) to highlight the use of forensic field technologies and demonstrate how forensic and biometric information and evidence can be gathered in the field for investigative purposes. The demonstration was designed to show how both traditional and emerging crime scene investigation tools and techniques can be used to enhance defense intelligence gathering in selected tactical scenarios.

NFSTC is a not-for-profit corporation providing forensic services like training, assessment, technology assistance, and evaluation to multiple communities, including the U.S. military, In 2011, for example, the center provided more than 10,000 training hours to military service members and cadets in areas including firearms examination, DNA collection/analysis, post-blast investigation and cell phone exploitation.
