Storm Shadow at War

Even the most capable soldier is unable to complete his mission without the proper equipment. URS has supported U.S. military tracked and wheeled vehicles for over half a century. URS provides full life-cycle services including system development and engineering, deployment of equipment, supply chain management, training, and the maintenance, repair and RESET of wheeled and tracked vehicles.
Changing threats to land forces require new solutions – URS has the technical and engineering expertise to evaluate warfighter needs and deliver solutions that meet requirements. In 2006, facing a critical need to protect U.S. troops from land mines, small arms fire, and improvised explosive devices, the Department of Defense (DoD) began the development of Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles. On behalf of the DoD, URS worked with manufacturers to support production, integration, testing and deployment of MRAPs to meet the stringent technical requirements necessary to protect U.S. service members. Within the year, about 1,200 vehicles had been fielded and over 14,000 have been delivered to date. In recognition of MRAP program accomplishments, URS and our government and commercial teammates were awarded the 2008 David Packard Excellence in Acquisition Award.
Beyond system development, URS logisticians know how to maintain a complex, worldwide supply chain – ensuring vehicles have the spare parts they need to remain operational. We manage over 3 million square feet and an aggregate of more than 250,000 line items valued at over $11 billion at our Hill AFB and Jacksonville, FL, depots. Management innovations reduced floor space by up to 40%. A flexible labor force — with trained part-time personnel supplementing full-time staff as needed — meant cost savings for the customer. Implementation of ISO 9001 processes also yielded more-reliable spare parts to end users with, most importantly, near-zero defects.
Enabling the sustainment of ground vehicles, URS works at locations such as the Red River Army Depot (RRAD) to perform vehicle recapitalization, RESET and depot level maintenance on both wheeled and tracked vehicles. Maintaining an aggressive repair rate of 32 vehicles produced per day, URS has delivered over 10,000 HWMMVs. This pace is achieved through the use of processes such as Lean Six Sigma which was utilized to reduce hub rebuild time from 180 minutes to just 30 minutes. At RRAD and our international maintenance facilities, each vehicle undergoes thorough quality assurance inspection to ensure that they are returned to the Warfighter in top condition. Elsewhere in the U.S., URS operates Fleet Readiness Logistics Centers (FLRC) to support the readiness of individual units.
Supporting military training needs, URS is a prime contractor under the U.S. Army’s Training Support Systems contract. URS provides training support for five critical training systems: the Sustainable Range Program, Combat Training Centers, Battle Command Training Centers, the Solider Training Support Program and the Training Development Support Program. All areas leverage the URS’ team capability to provide program management, range modernization and operations, training exercise support and development and simulations.
In any capacity and any location, URS supports readiness enabling mission success.
We are URS. We deliver mission success.
