Military Benefit Association was founded in 1956 as a nonprofit association to provide affordable life insurance benefits to enlisted service members. Over the years, military officers, federal civilian employees, members of the Ready Reserve and dependent spouses all became eligible for MBA membership. In 2007, MBA added honorable discharged veterans of the Uniformed Services and adult former dependents of MBA members to the eligibility list. Through gradual expansion of its membership eligibility, MBA has grown into an Association that serves the entire military and federal civilian communities.
MBA has upheld its original mission by sponsoring affordable and reliable group term life insurance products that protect military service members and their families. MBA Term 90 Life Insurance offers premium rates that are competitive with Servicemembers Group Life Insurance (SGLI)). The Term 90 insurance stays with the member during and after transition from military to civilian life, with no increased premiums based on separation from the military. Spouses of members are eligible to apply up to $250,000 of coverage and membership in their own right, and children may receive up to $12,500 of coverage at no additional cost.
In addition, the Military Benefit Association offers a selection of benefits to promote the economic interests and to improve the quality of life of members and their families. These include discounts on auto and home insurance through Liberty Mutual, tuition savings with Kaplan University and discounted health exams through Lifeline Screening. The MBA Scholarship Program awards five $2,000 scholarships annually to college-age dependent children of members.
Members of MBA join a community of people who share their interests. The decisions that affect the welfare of MBA members are made by a Board of Directors comprised of active duty and retired military members who know the concerns of their fellow service members.
